With every make of the decade, gender roles in western society are changing. From the flappers in the late 1920s to the modern business woman of today, thither is no denying this fact. Women have fought long and hard for their rights in hallow to pursue whatever career choice they choose, unless it regards the military. The military practically restricts women from combat roles such as serving in an base unit, placing another hurdle for women to clear before they are case-hardened as equals in western society. In read for women to benefit true equality in the United States, women must be granted access to foot roles if they so desire. Keeping women from doing so is not only an infringement on their rights; it also is decorous an impossible task with the expanding female recruitment rate in the United States military.
Many people however, stand against the notion of a female foot soldier. These individuals often believe that allowing women in infantry roles in the military would cause unnecessary distractions to male infantrymen, take apart camaraderie, and even alter soldiers emotions and jeopardize the bursting charge in hand. presidential candidate, Rick Santorum, expresses his concerns regarding the issue stating that, . . .



I do have concerns about women in front line combat. . . I designate it can be a very compromising situation, where people naturally whitethorn do things that may not be in the interests of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved. And I think thats probably -- you know, it already happens, of course, with the camaraderie of men in combat. But I think it would be even more unique if women were in combat. I think thats probably not in the best interests of men, women or the mission (Santorum). The presidential candidate is not alone in this line of thinking, unfortunately.
