In this study, Amy S. Pilcher and June J. Walters examined what eternal sleep does to college students. By obtaining a automatic group of college students, Pilcher and Walters were able to conduct a study to collect if sleep really does matter to the average college student.
Fourty-Four college students were the subjects of the sleep privation experiment. The close morning after the college students completed their task of sleeping or not sleeping, they ate breakfast and immediately went to take ternion tests, The Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal, a self-report scale to measure musical mode referred to as POMS, and the cognitive Interference Questionnaire. It was thought that the sleep- divest students would do importantly worse in all the tests, but for some that wasnt the case.
On the first test, The Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal, the students who were sleep deprived did poorly compared to the students who got a full nights rest.
Though they did do worse than the students who slept 8 hours, the sleep deprived students reported higher levels of estimated movement and put more effort into the task. Sleep deprivation therefrom isnt detrimental to the amount of effort adept gives.
The Cognitive Interference Questionnaire showed a strange ,discovery; sleep deprived students didnt have any more or less off-task cognitions compared to the students with a full nights rest. A cognition is the process of knowing, a thought, so an off- task cognition is a thought that is unrelated to what youre doing at the time. This test concluded that off-task cognitive thoughts arent increase or decreased based on how much sleep one gets at night.
