The monody consisted of very simply melodic lines designed to express the stirred content of the text it carries, which was accompanied by very simple progression of chords. Opera was established in the Baroque period, and easily evolved through the unstained period, and then on through gutter the Romantic era, to which the style is now set and is maintained.

Many composers in the mid-18th Century, in the reform between the Baroque era to the Classical era, tried to change the operatic practises that they were subjected to. They introduced forms other than the da capo for arias inwardly the opera, and made much greater use of the choral and instrumental music.
